Cot Bed Safety

We all know that lulling your baby to sleep isn’t the easiest of tasks, so the last thing you need is for their cot to cause any issues. Luckily, drop side cots and cot beds can make bedding little ones down less of a colossal task. That said, we know that safety comes above everything else. Here’s all the need-to-knows to help your baby sleep, well, like a baby.

Knowing what to look for

Whichever cot you go for must be be compliant with the latest European (EN716:2008) and British (BS8509:2008) safety standards.

When the cot bed arrives

Check for any immediate damage prior to assembly. If there is any damage, let your retailer know prior to assembly (this is important).

Setting it up

  • Follow the instruction manual right down to the letter
  • Use only what is supplied by the manufacturer (no drills etc…)
  • Ensure the cot bed is on a level surface
  • Check that all fitting are secure and tight
  • Ensure that the mattress is well-fitted and snug against the sides of the cot

Worth a thought

It might feel a bit soon to be thinking about a brother or sister for your baby, but it doesn’t hurt to plan for the future. That means making sure you can use your dropside cot again.

When you’ve taken the cot apart, store it flat. Keep the fittings and user guide together in a sealed bag and give every part a good once-over before it’s used for another little one.
